Protein localization

Kidney tubule cells, cardiomyocytes and glandular cells of appendix displayed weak cytoplasmic staining while a subset of neuropil showed moderate positivity. Hepatocytes exhibited additional nuclear positivity. Weak membranous staining was observed in epididymis, prostate and rectum while a subset of cells in colon and cells in seminiferus ducts showed moderate staining. Remaining normal tissues were negative.

Gene name

BATF (HGNC Symbol)

Synonyms

B-ATF, BATF1, SFA-2

Description

Basic leucine zipper transcription factor, ATF-like (HGNC Symbol)

Entrez gene summary

The protein encoded by this gene is a nuclear basic leucine zipper protein that belongs to the AP-1/ATF superfamily of transcription factors. The leucine zipper of this protein mediates dimerization with members of the Jun family of proteins. This protein is thought to be a negative regulator of AP-1/ATF transcriptional events.
